April Classes

E00531 - Churchmouse Toe-Up Socks (FULL) - $60

Saturdays 4/7, 4/14, 4/21; 9-11 am

We love knitting socks from the toe up—it lets you use every last inch of yarn! Knitting socks toe-up makes it easier to knit the foot to the correct length and to knit the tops without the worry of running out of yarn. You will learn Kitchener stitch, knitting with double pointed needles, elastic cast off, turning a heel and reading a complex pattern.

Learn to knit with double pointed knitting needles, change colors, Kitchener stitch, turn a heel and how to read a more complex pattern.

Materials to purchase before class begins:

PATTERN: Churchmouse Simple Toe-Up Socks
YARN: DK/sport weight yarn (270 to 405 yards), 1 yard smooth waste yarn in same weight
NEEDLES: US 3 6inch double pointed needles
TOOLS: tapestry needle

E00533 - Learn to knit slippers using the Churchmouse Family Slippers pattern - $40

Saturday 4/7 & 4/14; 3-5 pm

These slippers are a great project for the beginner. Learn to follow an easy pattern and work simple shaping. Join the seaming and finishing class as well to learn how to seam them once the knitting is complete.

Materials to purchase before class begins:

YARN: Approximately 150 (200, 300)yds / 137 (183, 274)m of a medium or heavy worsted-weight yarn held doubled, or 75 (100, 150) yds of chunky weight yarn held single stranded.
NEEDLES: US 8 or 9 or size needed to get gauge
Tapestry needle

E00534 - Seaming and Finishing: Learn to finish your project - $20

Saturday 4/21; 3-5 pm

Learn to make beautiful, professionally finished seams and to weave in ends so that they are invisible and secure. You can bring swatches or an actual garment that needs these finishing elements.

Seaming horizontally and vertically using mattress stitch
Seaming on garter and stockinette stitch
Weaving in ends

Knit 4 swatches: 2 5x5 inch swatches (knit in any fiber type) in stockinette stitch and 2 5x5 inch swatches in garter stitch.
OR, bring to class a garment that needs finishing. Use worsted weight or chunky weight yarn.

E00536 - Learn to knit - $60

Saturdays 5/12, 5/19, 5/26; 9-11 am

Make this lovely cowl while you learn knitting basics: casting on and knitting, purling and reading a pattern, binding off, finishing, and how to use a circular knitting needle.

Materials to purchase before class begins:

YARN: 1 100 gram chunky weight yarn (110 yards)
NEEDLES: US10 16” circular knitting needle
TOOLS: Tapestry needle

E00535 - Churchmouse Top-Down Socks - $60

Saturdays 5/12, 5/19, 5/26; 3-5 pm

Learn this basic comfy top-down sock pattern, and you can make it over and over again in many iterations. These are a joy to make and wear.

Skills: Reading a more complicated pattern, picking up stitches, heel shaping, knitting in the round with double pointed needles, Kitchener stitch seam

Materials needed: 100 grams DK weight yarn, four US 3 (3.25mm) double point needles, tapestry needle, pattern.

E00537 - Mirage Workshop - $10 per class

Wednesdays 5/16, 5/23, 5/30, 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11; 6-7 pm.

Learn to knit a beautiful tank top using the Mirage pattern by Shibui. Learn the sloped bind-off, armhole shaping and A-line shaping. Optional sleeves are included in the pattern instructions if a t-shirt is preferred. Tank is knit flat in pieces and seamed together.

Attendance at the first class is highly encouraged. After the first class, students work at their own pace, and attend the classes they want or need to. Pay $10 for each class attended.

E00538 - Knitting Pure and Simple Baby Pullover - $60

Tuesdays 5/8, 5/15, 5/22; 9-11 am

Learn to knit a simple but adorable baby pullover using the Knitting Pure and Simple pattern #214 or #295. Pattern #214 uses worsted weight yarn and pattern #295 uses Bulky weight yarn. The sweater is knit from the top down with raglan shaping.

Before class purchase the following:

June Classes

E00539 - Lace Market Bag - $60

Saturdays 6/2, 6/9, 6/16; 9-11 am.

Over the course of the class, each student will knit a market bag.

When knitting the market bag, students will learn the following skills: simple lace, using a lifeline, decreases for the bottom of the bag (K2tog), grafting the bottom using Kitchener stitch, picking up stitches for the straps. The market bag will utilize garter stitch for the base, the top border, and the straps. The body of the market bag will be knit in a simple lace pattern. Gauge isn’t important; sport weight yarn will yield a small bag, worsted weight yarn will yield a larger bag.

YARN: 350 yds of cotton, linen, or hemp yarn (or some blend of either of these) and
NEEDLES: US 6 (sport weight) or US8 (worsted weight) 24 ” circular needles.
PREPWORK: students should come to class with 2” of garter stitch (126 sts in the round) already knitted.

E00540 - Any Gauge Toe-Up Socks - $60

Saturdays 6/2, 6/9, 6/16; 3-5 pm

Pick any weight yarn, and any size foot. We will teach you how to custom fit a toe-up sock. Learn a short-row heel and Judy’s magic cast-on.

PATTERN: Sock Knitter’s Notebook Pattern by: Rachel Leggett (Free)
YARN: 100-150g of any weight yarn.
NEEDLES: US DPNs in one size smaller than ball-band recommends.
TOOLS: Tapestry needle
PREP-WORK: Work a gauge swatch using selected yarn and needles.
